Adult Drinks without the calories!

When I say adult drinks I am of course talking about alcohol. Unfortunately for those of us that like a tipple to relax, alcohol is pretty high in calories – it has 7 calories in each gram. So when you drink a lot you are increasing the number of calories you’re taking in, this will of course lead to problems. So, what is the best way to be able to enjoy a drink or two and avoid pillion on the weight? What is the alcoholic drink with the least number of calories?

Here are some of the best low calories options if you want to have a drink or two, especially with Christmas coming up soon.

Light beer – on average the light beers on sale have about 110 calories in them, it’s a better choice to normal beer.

White/Red wine – The calories will depend on the sweetness of the wine you are drinking. It’s safe to say that your glass of wine will have around 75-105 calories in it. I would advise going for drier wine, which will contain less calories.

Champagne – it’s tough to turn down a nice glass of champagne, usually they’re pushed in your direction at parties and weddings. The good news is that it only contains 84 calories per glass – that’s music to all of our ears!

Spirits (80 proof) – This includes all the usual suspects; vodka, tequila, cognac, rum, brandy and gin. All of these contain around 65 calories. That’s just the alcohol, what usually makes the spirits unhealthy is when people start to add mixers with a high sugar content. So pay attention to what you mix with your spirits.

Other ways to consume less calories

  • Opt for low calorie mixers like tonic or even diet soda options, light lemonade and also light cranberry juice are great as well.
  • Have it on the rocks. Sample some flavoured vodka and have it on the rocks for a very low calorie drink.
  • Dilute the alcohol. If you would like to have a glass of wine, then make it a spritzer by adding some soda. This will cut the alcohol intake by 50%
  • Take a break between each drink. Don’t always follow one beer with another, try to have a glass of water in between. This will slow the alcohol in take and the water will keep you hydrated too.
